Hyperbaric Chambers – designing bespoke fire suppression systems.
WMFE Ltd has recently designed and fabricated a High Pressure Water Mist System to protect a hyperbaric village, a large connected chamber complex, to house 24 divers on-board a pipeline repair vessel.
Within an oxygen enriched hyperbaric chamber fire behaviour is modified by the fact that the energy required for ignition is lower, the flame spread rate is faster, the rise in temperature causes a rapid rise in chamber pressure and there are problems of escape from the confounded area thus fire prevention is especially important and here a bespoke system was required.
With almost 100 years of combined experience within the fire industry WMFE Ltd are able to flex to the specific needs of each environment. Many of the components used for the hyperbaric chambers are bespoke and require a unique design. An example of this is the spray bars pictured.
This is another example of WMFE working with diverse areas of industry to exceed any fire suppression requirement.
